Rehoming
Greatwood is looking for knowledgeable caring people (min age 18 years) with the experience, facilities and commitment essential to successfully re-home a rehabilitated ex-racehorse. These horses have much to offer after their periods of rehabilitation and Greatwood makes every effort to match the right horse with a carer.
The Greatwood equine management staff carefully vet all applicants, for instance you must have thoroughbred experience and ideally be below 12 stone.
Next, the applicant’s references and facilities will be checked if a suitable horse has been identified. If this is satisfactory to the staff, the applicants will then be asked to sign a legal contract and make a donation.
Carers are required to become a Friend of Greatwood for the duration of the loan - this costs just £5 per month. A donation towards the substantial running costs of Greatwood is very much appreciated when a horse is re-homed.
While Greatwood expects all horses to remain with the carer for the rest of their natural lives, a firm contract is in place whereby horses cannot be sold on or moved without Greatwood's permission and regular welfare checks are undertaken.
NOTE: Greatwood requires a donation of £750 when you rehome one of our horses.
